Located in the Embassy Golf Links gated technology park in Domlur, Bangalor, Fusion Lounge sits at the crossroads of technology and entertainment. Purported to be the world’s first fully-automated pub, the very exclusive next Gen club is run by a restaurant POS Android.
But, the restaurant POS Android is not the only technology on Fusion’s menu. Entry to the bar, for example, is restricted by three-factor, dual-biometric access control. On the first visit, a kiosk provides the guest with a radio-frequency identification (RFID) card, embedded with identification data and other personal information. To enter the bar, guests must pass through a turnstile equipped with an RFID card reader as well as face and thumbprint scanners. On the initial visit, the system records and stores the biometric identification data on the RFID card; on subsequent visits, the turnstile uses fingerprint analysis and facial recognition software to compare the data stored on the card with that received from the new face and thumbprint scans.
Audio-visual entertainment and gaming are other areas not run by the restaurant POS Android. Guests can choose to have the automated DJ select the music from the long play list, provided by DJs around the world, or make their own music and video selections from an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch.
While the restaurant POS Android does not directly control those functions, it is fully integrated with the adjunct systems that do. The RFID card tracks and retains the guest’s food, beverage, music, video, and gaming choices throughout the evening and prompt special offers; when the card is swiped on return visits, the guest’s preferences are displayed on the server’s Android digital menu.
Servers, called “captains,” wear black tees with digital LED name “tags” and carry Android tablets, capable of reading the RFID cards. Orders are entered into the restaurant POS Android, tableside, and wirelessly transmitted to the automated kitchen and programmed dispensers bar; there is no need for servers to go to a central POS terminal to reenter the order. Inverted bottles, connected to the bar, accurately measure and dispense the perfect amount of alcohol for each drink ordered; the system also displays precise instructions on any customary or requested finishing touches, so the server need not be a trained bartender to masterfully fill the drink request. Similarly, the automated draught beer dispenser controls the volume dispensed, while maintaining the perfect temperature for each pitcher or glass.
There is no cashier. Like ordering, payment takes place tableside, on the restaurant POS Android; servers can swipe the guest’s credit card, obtain credit card authorization and digital signature, and email an electronic receipt to the customer’s email address right at the table.
